What is encaustic painting?

Encaustic painting is essentially painting with hot colored wax and a medium. When wax melts it adheres to the surface of the paper or other rigid surfaces. I have been using encaustic because it has the most wonderful texture and touch. It can be elastic or hard, three-dimensional or flat. It is a technique that has been around for over 2000 years; the oldest surviving encaustic panel paintings are the Romano-Egyptian Fayum portraits from 100-300 AD. Encaustic has now been recently rediscovered and is widely used as another tool for artistic expression. Each encaustic piece I create is unique, perfect for collectors or anyone looking to enhance their space.
